A summer wedding at Langbathsee

When we were children, she lived just across the street. Then, when we were twelve, she moved away, and life did what life does.

Years later she found me again. She tracked down my number and asked whether I would photograph her wedding.

It was to be a small one, fewer than twenty guests, every one of them chosen with care. For her, what mattered most was that the day stayed protected: no stranger wandering around with a camera, no one who didn’t belong. Someone who had known her since she was a little girl turned out to be exactly the right person.

Langbathsee in August is the kind of place that makes you lower your voice.

I spent the day half as a photographer and half as an old friend, and I’m not sure where one ended and the other began. What stays with me most is simply seeing her that happy. It was an honour to be there.
